After two years of consultation and discussion with Birmingham City Planning an Urban Design Team, planning was successfully granted for a new residential development at Harborne Golf Club.

Located off Freda’s Grove, the site has a large amount of dense vegetation covering a varying topographical landscape. The design approaches to develop ten semi-detached residential dwellings to suit local needs and policy within a contemporary layout to modern accommodation standards.

Approach & Methodology

The scheme formed part of a wider master planning process and business plan for Harborne Golf Club. With external pressures it became increasingly difficult to plan for future budget allocations at the Golf Club. The design scheme hopes to secure and preserve the financial longevity at Harborne.

Design Development

Much discussion entailed at Pre-application stage on the best layout proposal with Birmingham City Council Urban Design Team. The development was reduced to ten properties whilst incorporating and respecting the existing trees on site. Detailed elevations show form of two storey designs incorporating a mixture of materials and style similar to that of surrounding conurbations such as Harborne, Edgbaston and Moseley.

The proposal seeks to incorporate a new access estate road from Freda’s Grove into the development site on the western edge along the retained golf course boundary.
